Part 3: Are You Afraid?
I had a nephew who was once afraid of clowns.
Whenever he was at a party, he would be having
a great time until it’s time for the clowns to come
out at which he would run straight to his mommy
screaming in terror.
It came to a point where everytime they were
invited to go to a party he would throw a tantrum
unless his mommy asked and made sure there
would be no clowns.
This was until he attended another party after his
mommy assured him there would be no clowns.
While playing hide and go seek with the other kids,
he found himself looking for a hiding place inside
the rest room.
After squeezing himself in a corner, someone stepped
into the rest room.
Not wanting to give his hiding place away, he sat there
silently as the young man who came in went straight
in front of the mirror and change clothes and start to
apply make up.
To his amazement, he saw the young man transform into
a clown right before his eyes.
Right after the “transformation” was complete, he came
out of his hiding place and said, “Hey Mr. Clown, you’re
a guy!” Before he ran out to his friends.
When his mommy saw him, she was prepared to bring
him home as she knew it was time for the clown to
come out.
To her surprise, my nephew simply said, “I’d like to
watch the clown’s show.”
Unable to believe what she just heard, my sister asked,
“Aren’t you afraid of the clown?”
My nephew answered, “Not anymore mommy. He’s
just some guy!”
This is usually the same case with most greenhorns.
If you’re a rookie investor and you’re terrified of
picking up the phone to talk to your prospects, just
calm down and relax. Remember what my nephew
said: “He’s just some guy!”
Talking to your prospects is simply making conversation.
It’s as simple as that.
Of course you need to be prepared with the things
you need to find out from them (which I already gave
you with the first email of this series last Friday) and a
script would also be helpful (which I sent you yesterday
as the second email of this series).
Other than that, it’s just normal conversation.
There may be times when you encounter prospects
who would yell at you, slam the phone down on you
and might even cuss at you, but that ain’t gonna happen
in every call. You might get one in a hundred calls and
that’s it. (Besides, you can always cuss back!
Just
kidding!)
Your prospects ain’t aliens out to abduct you and turn
you into a lab rat, or monsters out to eat you alive or
anything like that.
Remember, “He’s just some guy!”
Don’t be afraid.
